Quran channels on YouTube: can they earn, and what are the rules?

A recitation channel on YouTube and its earning rules

The short answer

Yes, a Quran channel can earn once it joins the YouTube Partner Program: 1,000 subscribers with 4,000 watch hours in 12 months, or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days, while following the monetization policies. The decisive rule for recitation channels is original content: re-uploading other people's recitations without real added value costs the channel its earnings.

Many Islamic channel owners ask: “Can a Quran channel earn?” and “Why was my channel rejected when I only post recitations?” The answer is in YouTube's own rules, and the most important one is not the subscriber count but originality.

Can a Quran channel earn money?

Yes. The YouTube Partner Program rules neither exclude religious content nor give it different rules. A Quran channel is treated like any channel: eligibility thresholds, a review, and the monetization policies, including the reused content policy.

What are the YouTube Partner Program thresholds?

The YouTube Partner Program has two levels: a lower level that opens fan funding features, and a full level that opens ad and YouTube Premium revenue.

LevelThresholdWhat it unlocks
Lower level500 subscribers, 3 public uploads in 90 days, and 3,000 watch hours in 12 months or 3 million Shorts views in 90 days.Memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers, Super Thanks, and Shopping.
Full level1,000 subscribers, and 4,000 watch hours in 12 months or 10 million Shorts views in 90 days.Revenue sharing from ads and YouTube Premium.

Watch hours from Shorts views in the Shorts Feed do not count toward the 4,000 hours. The lower level is available in specific countries, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, Oman, Lebanon, Morocco and Algeria.

What changes in 2027?

YouTube has announced that from 1 February 2027 the full-level entry thresholds for new channels rise to 1,000 subscribers with 8,000 watch hours in 365 days, or 20 million Shorts views in 90 days. Channels already in the program are not affected and the lower level stays the same, but members must accept the updated terms in YouTube Studio by 31 January 2027 to keep earning from the affected features.

What other requirements are there?

Beyond the subscriber and view thresholds, the YouTube Partner Program requires six things before a channel is reviewed:

  • Following the channel monetization policies.
  • Living in a country or region where the program is available.
  • No active Community Guidelines strikes on the channel.
  • 2-Step Verification turned on for the Google Account.
  • Access to advanced features on YouTube.
  • One active AdSense for YouTube account linked to the channel.

After accepting the terms and linking AdSense the channel enters the review queue, and a decision usually takes about a month.

Why are many recitation channels rejected?

Many recitation channels are rejected under the reused content policy: YouTube defines it as repurposing content already on YouTube or another source without significant original commentary, substantive modification, or educational or entertainment value. The test is whether viewers can see a meaningful difference from the original.

  • Compiling clips from other channels or sites with nothing added counts as reused content.
  • The policy applies even if you have the original creator's permission.
  • Content that looks made from one repeated template, including AI-generated content from generic templates, falls under the inauthentic content policy.
  • On a violation, monetization may be removed from the entire channel, not just one video.

Who earns from a re-uploaded recitation?

If a re-uploaded recitation is protected by Content ID, an automatic claim may be placed on it, so its revenue goes to the recording owner or the video is blocked, according to the owner's policy. A channel built on other people's recordings may therefore not earn from them even if it is accepted into the program.

How do you build an original Quran channel?

An original Quran channel offers a recording or an addition that exists nowhere else. Four practical steps in line with YouTube's policy:

  1. Record your own recitations, or contract a reciter for recordings whose rights you hold.
  2. Add real value: tafsir, tajweed lessons, or translation of meanings with commentary.
  3. Avoid one fixed template repeated for every video, such as a single image with copied audio.
  4. Protect your recordings with Content ID so others do not earn from copies.

What about the religious ruling?

This article explains YouTube's rules only and gives no religious ruling. Whether earning ad revenue on Quran content is permissible is a question for the official fatwa body in your country, giving it the details of the channel, the content and the source of the recitations.

What should you do if your channel is rejected?

If your channel is rejected you have two options: appeal within 21 days, or keep posting original content and reapply after 30 days. If it is not your first rejection, or you have already reapplied, you must wait 90 days.

This is the standard Injaz Digital has worked to for 15+ years: an official YouTube partnership, Content ID protection and clear reports for every channel, across partner channels with 4.1B+ views and 1M+ videos under our management every month.

FAQ

Does YouTube ban earning from religious content?

No. The Partner Program rules do not exclude religious content; the same policies apply, originality above all.

Is a reciter's permission enough to repost their recitations and earn?

No. YouTube says the reused content policy applies even with the original creator's permission, so you need a clear addition.

Do the 2027 changes affect my accepted channel?

No. The higher thresholds from 1 February 2027 apply to new channels, but you must accept the updated terms in Studio by 31 January 2027.

How long does the review take?

Usually about a month after accepting the terms and linking AdSense, and longer if the channel needs more than one review.
