Partner-provided, UGC and Premium UGC in YouTube revenue reports

Updated 16/10/2026 · 6 min read · Injaz Digital team

The short answer

Partner-provided is a video the rights holder uploaded to a channel they own; UGC is a video someone else uploaded to their own channel containing content you own, claimed by Content ID; Premium UGC is a third-party upload with qualifying segments of your content. With UGC the revenue goes to the asset owner, not the uploader's channel, which is the heart of rights protection and recitation channels.

When rights holders see the Content Type column they ask: “What does UGC mean on YouTube?” and “How do I earn from a video I didn't upload?”. The answer is in YouTube's own definitions, and in a channel column many accountants overlook.

What do Partner-provided, UGC and Premium UGC mean?

They are the three values of the content type column, which YouTube defines as “the source of the claimed video”:

ValueYouTube's definitionIn practice
Partner-providedVideo uploaded to a channel you ownYour content on your channel
UGCThird-party upload containing content you ownYour content on someone else's channel, claimed by Content ID
Premium UGCThird-party upload with qualifying segments of your contentA special UGC category YouTube distinguishes

YouTube Help separates the upload policy the rights holder applies to their own videos from the match policy Content ID applies to other people's videos. Both use the same rules: monetize, track or block.

How do you earn from a video you did not upload?

You earn when Content ID recognizes your content in it and applies a monetize policy, so ads run and your asset's revenue comes to you. That is UGC in the report. For recitation and nasheed channels much of the revenue comes from here, because one recitation is re-uploaded to dozens of channels.

That is why Injaz Digital adds Quran channels' recitations and nasheeds to Content ID as references, so the revenue of every re-upload reaches the rights holder instead of being lost.

Who owns a UGC line's revenue: the uploader's channel or the asset owner?

The asset owner does, not the uploader's channel. According to the YouTube reports Injaz Digital has received up to October 2026, the four claim-family files (videoclaim, red_label and its adjustments, and ADJ_claim) carry two channel columns: Channel ID, the channel that uploaded the video, and Asset Channel ID, the channel that owns the asset.

Distributing UGC revenue by Channel ID gives the money to whoever re-uploaded, usually not your client at all. The rule we apply: the client of an external line is never taken from the uploader's channel, but from the asset and its owner.

How do you read the content type column on your statement?

  1. Separate Partner-provided revenue from UGC: the first is your channel's performance, the second your rights protection.
  2. Check that UGC revenue is attributed to your assets, not to the uploaders' channels.
  3. Review Premium UGC on its own, as YouTube treats it as a distinct category.
  4. Compare the UGC share month to month: a sudden drop can mean assets fell out of Content ID.

For US tax each type is counted in its own file, one for Partner-provided and one for UGC, so mixing them puts tax on the wrong owners.
